Content Writing

The quality and quantity of the information on your website decides whether visitors become customers or leave quickly after seeing the home page

Content writing has a certain stigma attached to it. It is often assumed that 'anyone' can do it, and the fact that most people want to just get it done and out of the way means that your website's message may be falling flat. Below are a handful of tips to help you write effective content.

1) Simplicity on the Home Page -
The home page of your website is NOT the page to sell your product. It is the most common arrival page. Visitors who reach this page may have any number of questions, from a basic what you do to a specific how much does it cost. Structure your home page like an office building's information desk. Give visitors the answers to their basic questions (which usually start with 'where can I find...'). The key is being simple and concise. Reassure them that they are in the right place and make it immediately obvious where they need to go to get answers to their specific questions.

2) Use Headlines - A webpage is read in the same way as a newspaper, in that the headlines are noticed first. Any headline (or image) that is of interest to the reader is then focused on and the text that goes with it is read. HTML, the base website programming language, features 6 heading tags (H1 - H6) to emphasize important parts of a website's content. Website content which has paragraphs of text without headlines will end up being glazed over. Take the time to place headers and make sure that they contain information that is informative and interesting enough to make visitors want to read more.

3) Write for your Audience -It's no surprise that professionals often have trouble taking a step back to write content for their website. They are so engrossed in their business that it becomes a challenge to change gears and write for visitors who may have no knowledge of your company or profession. Depending on who is most likely to visit your website, whether it be fellow business professionals or complete newbies, write your content to cater to your visitors.
