What Your E-Mail Address Says About You

3 tips to use your e-mail address in conjunction with your website

1) Dump the Hotmail or Yahoo email addresses - If you have a website and domain name, then you have the ability to create your own e-mail address (e.g., yourname@yoursite.com). When you make this e-mail address change and use it to communicate you are marketing your website with every e-mail you send. Remember an e-mail address like you@yahoo.com markets Yahoo. Why not market your own website instead?

2) Mind your mailing list - When sending out reminders, newsletters and product announcements via e-mail, keep in mind that if you don't have the expressed permission of your recipient to send notices of this nature then your e-mail is legally classified as Unsolicited Commercial E-mail, or spam. The result is that you may end up, over time, being blacklisted by mail servers. In order to prevent this potential problem and others, when collecting e-mail addresses for a mailing list, make sure that they either opt in or are aware that you will be sending them e-mail.

3) Whenever possible, avoid putting your e-mail address in plain sight - The easiest thing to do for a contact page is to simply place the e-mail address on there for users to click. The only problem is that plain sight e-mail addresses are easy targets for spamming robots, in turn increasing your liklihood of getting on more spam lists. If you can, go the extra length and hide your e-mail address inside the processor of a contact form.
