Surfing on a Cell Phone (part 2)

A real world example about how utilizing mobile phone technology can add much needed usefulness to your website

In part one we talked about whether your website would benefit from optimizing your website to be displayed using mobile phone browsers. This time we'll delve further into the specifics of how a website might use mobile technology to provide useful services to its customers, by examining what we've put together for our very own Central California Home and Ranch real estate magazine website.

We added two specific mobile-based functions to our website:

  • The first function is an actual search function that can be accessed through a mobile phone. It is merely a simplified version of our property search that is formatted to be read easily on a small screen.
  • The second function on the website is for visitors who have found properties that they like and want more information. They can click a button that sends the property information to their mobile phones as a text messages so they can follow up with the listing agent(s) at a later date, or during a time when they may not be in front of their computers.
In creating these two functions, we have provided an interactive service to visitors through their cell phone, further promoting our website. This has helped boost our visitor count and visitors to www.CCHRmag.com find that the mobile-based functions are convenient and easy to use.

This example works for our website. Your website may need something similar, but different to be a truly useful tool for your visitors. To help figure out your best mobile-based options, give us a call at (559) 683-4030.
