Pay-Per-Click
Paying for a link is a good way to get your company visible while waiting for your website to be fully indexed by a search engine
When a website first launches, many people become worried because it takes some time for Google to recognize their website. This is because all websites start out exactly the same–considered as internet spam. Google estimates that about 80% of the web page content out there is considered spam, so new websites would hardly be assumed to be any different. While you may appear in Google results it will take anywhere from 2-6 months before your website is properly indexed and fully released into the search results.
While you're waiting for your website to be properly indexed, one option you have is to set up Pay-per-Click (PPC). For Google, this is done by setting up an AdWords account. When you set up the account and decide a budget, you choose a series of Google search keywords and key phrases that you would like your website to appear under.
You will choose a maximum Cost-per-Click amount; how much it costs you every time someone clicks your link. Warning: If you are after a popular search term, or one that is highly competed for, costs per click can get expensive. For example, setting up the key phrase 'real estate' will set you back between $70-100 every time someone clicks on that link. For that kind of money, you'd better have a website that can convert that visitor to a sale and fast! If not, stick to more niche terms that are more affordable and more specific about who needs to see your website. Think 'Real Estate CA model homes' as an alternative, for 50¢ per click.
However, actual page impressions are fractions of a cent. Page impressions are the number of times your link appears within the search results page or under sponsored links. In our own experience, we can count on about 1 click out of every 400-800 impressions. For our websites it's worth the cost just having our name out there. We are at least visible even if our links aren't clicked.
