Self-Managed Websites: Taking Control is Easier than you Think

Building a website that runs from a database allows even the novice computer user to take charge and have control over their site

You've seen it - you'll go to someone's website and see 'Last Updated March 2004' or 'Website Copyright 2002.' When you see this, what do you think? Has anything changed? Prices, product? Is the business still there?

10 years ago, content didn't matter as it does today - a website was simply a competitive edge. Nowadays, because most businesses have one, a big concern is keeping up with your competitors. The best way to do this is by keeping your content current.

One avenue for you to consider is to have a site developed that displays page text based on the information in a database. You can log into the administion section and edit this database, and thus the text on your site. The result is that you now have a self-managed website which can change with your business (and you no longer have to worry about the costs involved in hiring a webmaster to make changes for you).

Sites such as this rely on server-based programming (we use PHP/MySQL) and will take a little more effort to set up than a static HTML website, but once the development is done, you will have a site that can easily be kept current, and, because of the consitently changing content, will do better on search engines than sites which haven't seen a single change in years.

Wild Pete Web Services focuses not only on web site design but also assisting companies make their move from a traditional to an online marketing stance. Step one may be for us to take a good hard look at if a website is even a good investment for you (it's not necessarily a given)! Step two would be figuring out what the best angle would be to promote your business on the site. Step three is to actually take this information and form it into a website with useful content to inform and promote. All along the process, we'll help you figure out what you need to get your site out there to your potential customers. This may include a marketing or e-mail campaign, direct client contact, or search engine optimization.
